Delhi polls: Dera Sacha Sauda to extend support to BJP, says Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Thiruvananthapuram: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Thursday said the sect would extend support to BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections, giving a shot in the arm to the party which is locked in one of the most-fiercely contested polls. IBNLive[/caption] “Our policy is to extend support to those who fight evils in the society and those who do good things to people,” Rahim Singh told a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram. BJP approached the Dera and signed an affidavit that the party would fight against drug and liquor addiction, corruption and other bad things in the society, he said, “So we extended support to them.” When pointed out that AAP has also promised the same things in their manifesto ahead of the 7 February elections, Singh said BJP approached them and ‘AAP did not come to us’. He claimed that the sect has about 15 to 20 lakh followers in Delhi. Singh also termed as 100 percent false the report that his controversial film MSG: The Messenger of God was cleared by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) as Sauda had offered support to BJP. It was a film against drug menace and no religion in it, said Singh, who has acted and directed the controversial movie. The film will be released across the country on 13 February. Earlier, Ram Singh, chairman of the sect’s political affairs wing, talking to PTI in Chandigarh, replied in the affirmative when asked if the support was also for Akali dal candidates. On MSG, he said, “It is a film to create awareness about use of drug and other social evils. Those who oppose the movie were doing so without knowing what was in the film.” “Once they see the film, they will change their mind,” Singh said when asked the opposition to the movie by certain outfits including Akali Dal in Punjab. The Harayana High court had cleared the film and now it would be released, he said. The film would be released in Malayalm, Tamil, Telegu, Hindi, English, Italian, Japanese and Chinese languages, he added. The film had run into a row last month after the Censor Board Chief Leela Samson resigned, apparently protesting the clearance given to the film by FCAT “overlooking” the censor Board. PTI
