Delhi court sends AAP MLA Surender Singh to judicial custody in public property defacing case

New Delhi: A court in Delhi on Saturday sent Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Delhi Cantonment, Surender Singh, to judicial custody for defacing public property. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ashu Garg remanded Singh to judicial custody till 17 August over his non-appearance in the case despite repeated summons.

Singh is accused of putting up posters and hoardings as well as defacing public property in south Delhi in 2014. On 23 April this year, former BJP MLA Karan Singh Tanwar had sought setting aside of Surender Singh’s election on the ground that he admitted to have furnished incorrect details of his education in the nomination papers, The Indian Express had reported. Tanwar in his election petition had challenged Singh’s election on the grounds of non-declaration of government dues, non-furnishing of financial status and income tax returns as well as incorrect disclosure of his educational qualification in his nomination papers.
