Delhi BJP chief slaps legal notice on Kejriwal for 'baseless' allegations

New Delhi: Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay on Thursday slapped a legal notice on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and approached the Election Commission, accusing him of making “baseless” allegation that he had a nexus with power distribution company BSES. In the legal notice, Upadhyay asked the AAP leader to provide proof of his allegations with next 24 hours or face legal action. AP[/caption] Kejriwal had on Wednesday alleged that firms owned by Upadhyay were installing and repairing meters for the discoms in the city. “As per my commitment, I today served a legal notice to Kejriwal and asked him to prove allegations levelled by him against me with evidence in next 24 hours. If he fails, I will initiate appropriate legal action against him,” Upadhyay told a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday. The BJP leader also said in the legal notice that after becoming president of state party’s unit, he resigned from all the companies. Out of six companies, two do not exist anywhere and these allegations were levelled to get political mileage ahead of assembly polls. “Will Kejriwal now quit politics?” Upadhyay also said. Earlier in the day, a delegation of BJP leaders led by Delhi’s party in-charge Prabhat Jha approached the EC and filed a complaint against Kejriwal, seeking strict action against the latter. “Clause 1 (2) of the Model Code of Conduct, criticism of other political parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be avoided. But without verifying facts, he presented false and distorted in his press conference ,” Upadhyay said in his complaint. Upadhyay, party general secretary Ramesh Bidhuri, Vijay Goel besides Vijendra Gupta were also part of the delegation. Ajay Digpaul, a member of BJP’s legal cell, said that Chief Election Commissioner has assured the delegation that EC would examine the complaint and proceed accordingly. PTI
