Chennai: The Congress will undertake a new poll strategy for the Lok Sabha elections and the party will execute it at the right time to emerge victorious, Shipping Minister G K Vasan said on Sunday.
"For the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress will undertake a new poll strategy. It would execute the strategy at the right time that will make the party emerge victorious," Vasan said, after unveiling a nine-foot statue of veteran Congress leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj at Kamarajar Port here today. At the renaming function of Ennore Port Ltd to Kamarajar Port recently, Vasan had said the leader’s new statue would be set up in the administrative block of the port situated near Chennai. Asked about alliance talks with other parties, he said there was enough time as national parties were yet to decide on it. “Important national political parties have not decided about their alliances and are negotiating. There is time to decide (about it) as Election Commission is yet to announce the poll dates,” he told reporters. Vasan also distributed note books, geometry box and a book on Kamaraj to school children on the occasion. The Congress is still scouting for allies while ruling AIADMK has struck an alliance with the left parties. DMK has till now finalised alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Manithaneyaneya Makkal Katchi, and Puthiya Tamizhagam. Union Minister M Sudarsana Natchiappan on Saturday indicated that Congress was open for alliances with DMK and DMDK. DMDK chief Vijayakanth, however, is yet to make known the electoral allies of his party while BJP national president Rajnath Singh recently authorised the Tamil Nadu unit to complete the “process of forging alliance with prospective parties” in a week.
