Congress sharpens attack on BJP, wants dissolution of Delhi Assembly

New Delhi: Demanding immediate dissolution of Delhi Assembly, Congress today sharpened its attack on BJP wondering why it was shying away from facing fresh elections in the national capital when its top leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was making “waves” in the entire country. Accusing BJP of trying to grab power through unfair means, the Delhi Congress also challenged the party of placing on record name of the MLAs whom it expected to support to form a government if Lt Governor extends an invite to take the reins. AFP[/caption] “We want immediate dissolution of the assembly. We are ready for the elections. Why BJP wants to avoid election when it says Narendra Modi was creating waves in the entire country and is leading a very successful government,” Delhi Congress Chief Spokesperson Mukesh Sharma asked. Lambasting Lt Governor Najeeb Jung’s move to invite BJP to form a government, he said asking the saffron party to take a shot at power will be totally illegal and against the spirit of the Constitution. “Jung was acting at the behest of BJP which was very unfortunate. There is no alternative but to hold fresh elections in Delhi,” Sharma said claiming that Congress has regained the lost ground and is ready to face the electorate. He said though the Supreme Court today asked the Centre to apprise it on October 10 the outcome of the process undertaken by Jung on government formation in Delhi, the Centre should immediately dissolve the assembly. The Congress spokesperson alleged that BJP was vitiating the political environment in the city by trying to offer money to MLAs from rival parties and accused the Lt Governor of keeping his eyes shut to BJP’s “misdeeds”. The BJP faced severe embarrassment with the Aam Aadmi Party yesterday alleging that a senior leader of the saffron party’s city unit offered a bribe of Rs four crore to one of its MLAs for switching sides. The BJP and its Delhi unit Vice President Sher Singh Dagar, accused of offering the bribe, first dismissed the charge but the party was later forced to issue a show cause notice to him seeking his explanation. Last week, the Lt Governor had written to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking his permission to invite BJP to form government. PTI
