Congress moves EC against Modi's 'CBI, IM remarks'

New Delhi: Congress today moved the Election Commission seeking “firm action” against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his “CBI and Indian Mujahideen remarks in a rally in Uttar Pradesh, alleging they were “maliciously and mischievously calculated and designed”. Submitting the text of Modi s speech in Bahraich to Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath, the AICC legal department quoted Modi as saying “yeah Sapa Yeah Basapa Yeah Congress inki tikri chunao kai maidaan mai nahi aayegi aglaey chunao mai mujhe lagta hai CBI, Indian Mujahideen yahi log chunao ka morcha sambhalenge taki Congress ko bachai sakein (This trio of SP, BSP, Congress will not come in poll fray in the next election. I feel CBI, the Indian Mujahideen, these people will handle the electoral front so that they can save Congress)”.[caption id=“attachment_1228133” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. PTI](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/modi_ahmedabad_380PTI.jpg) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. PTI[/caption] Congress contended that even though Modi’s rally was not organized in any of the five assembly poll-bound states, it was still a violation of model code of conduct as it was purposely organized to influence and impact the voters in the poll-bound states particularly, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh as the BJP leader has been addressing public rallies in these states and is in direct fight with Congress there. “And the Bahraich rally was also part of the same, in continuity with an objective to influence voters in the poll-bound states, which is violative of Model Code of Conduct,” the party said. “Such statements are widely circulated and have serious repercussions for Congress party. It is maliciously and mischievously calculated and designed to put Congress party in a very poor light and intended to cause political and social alienation and harm,” secretary of AICC legal department KC Mittal said in the complaint. Mittal alleged Modi has associated Congress party with a banned organization Indian Mujahideen and for that matter he even goes to the extent to say that “yeah bomb, bandook aur pistol ki rajneeti karney wale” (those playing the politics of bomb, gun and pistol). The AICC said this statement made by him is also derogatory and violates the Model Code of Conduct. It also alleged Modi’s statements, “apart from being malicious and mischievous, were made to influence and send an adverse message to the voters in poll-bound states against Congress party”. Noting that the statement made by Modi was widely publicized and televised including in the poll-bound states, the AICC alleged “the sole purpose of the meeting was to spread communal hatred and terrorize voters to refrain from voting for Congress”. In the present case, the focus was obviously on the ongoing elections in four states and his address was targeted directly towards them, Mittal alleged. “In view of the aforementioned facts and circumstances, it is a clear case of violation of Model Code of Conduct by him and Bharatiya Janata Party,” the Congress leader said. “I would, therefore, request you to take firm action against BJP and Modi for violation of Model Code of Conduct”.
