Congress-led UPA has failed to control rising inflation: Rajnath Singh

Morena (MP): BJP President Rajnath Singh blamed the Congress-led UPA government here today for failing to control rising inflation and claimed that during NDA rule, inflation was unable to raise its head for six years when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. “During NDA rule, the then Prime Minister Vajpayee had conducted nuclear explosion at Pokhran after which many countries got annoyed with India and imposed economic sanctions. Despite that we did not allow inflation to grow in the country. But the Congress-led UPA government has failed to control the rising inflation,” Rajnath said here, addressing a poll rally in Ambah town in support of BJP candidate Banshilal Jatav, who had earlier won the polls thrice from the seat and is contesting for a fourth term. Reuters[/caption] He also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his China trip, during which he had inked a number of agreements with his Chinese counterpart on defence issues. The BJP President said that before signing these pacts, the Prime Minister should have taken the main opposition parties of the country into confidence. Taking a dig at the UPA government, he said that it was supported from inside by 11 parties, from the outside by SP and BSP, as well as the CBI from the top. He said despite this BJP would form the government at the Centre in 2014. Praising Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he said that in the last ten years of BJP rule, the state had scaled new heights in development. The state’s irrigation potential was increased from seven lakh hectares to 22 lakh hectares, production of wheat was raised to 22 lakh metric tonnes from two lakh metric tonnes and a number of schemes were successfully implemented for the welfare of various sections of society, he said.
