Narendra Modi may be the BJP’s presumptive prime ministerial candidate, but before he can contest the 2014 elections, he will be coming soon to a big screen near you. At last least, that’s the plan for Hollywood producer Mitesh Patel, who is making a biopic of the Gujarat chief minister. Patel has Modi’s permission to make the film, but the devil might turn out to be in the details. Modi has never spoken publicly about his marriage but Patel wants to make a typical Bollywood movie of Modi with “all the commercial masala” , and that means romance. He wants to give viewers a glimpse of a dancing, romancing Modi, which may not be entirely to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s liking. [caption id=“attachment_1033215” align=“aligncenter” width=“380”]
Can you imagine Narendra Modi dancing around a tree?[/caption] “Modi has given his nod to the film but there are many things in it that he is not OK with,” Patel told the Telegraph
. “We are talking to him to convince him.” The paper said Patel left for the US in 1997 and is a self-confessed Modi fan. He heads Applied Art Productions in Hollywood, which counts animated movie Delhi Safari among its productions. He did not divulge whether the movie would show any part of the Godra riots, but claimed it will depict the criticisms of Modi and the back-and-forth over his personality Should Modi decide not to give the film permission to show him with a wife, Patel said there are film devices – such as dream sequences – that he could use to show similar scenes without expliciting showing Modi as a married man. Patel wants to have the film completed by 13 December so he can capitalise on the wave of Modi support that is sweeping across the country. There is no word yet on who will play Modi, though.
