DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin termed the Central Bureau of Investigation raids in his house a ‘political vendetta’. Stalin’s house was searched by the CBI in Chennai this morning in connection with the alleged illegal import of cars. The raids came just two days after Stalin’s party, the DMK, pulled out of the ruling coalition at the Centre over what the DMK alleged was the government’s unwillingness to take a strong stand against Sri Lanka at the UN’s top human rights body in Geneva. “You see for yourself. The raids took place just two days after we quit the UPA,” Stalin told reporters outside his house. “We will face the case legally. I am unaware of the reasons for the CBI raid,” he added. This is only political vendetta. Let the CBI do anything, we don’t bother. One has to understand how the Congress has stooped down to this level.” Reports say the CBI searches were conducted after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence complained that the DMK leader had not paid duty for imported cars owned by him. One of the illegally imported cars is allegedly being used by MK Stalin’s son and the CBI is trying to verify the details. The raid began around 6 am and continued for nearly three hours. The DMK had withdrawn from the UPA on Tuesday demanding the government should get a resolution passed by Parliament against Sri Lanka. Following the pullout of their party, five Union ministers of the DMK - MK Alagiri, SS Palanimackam, S Gandhiselvan, S Jagatrakshakan and D Napolean - submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, which were accepted and later sent to President Pranab Mukherjee.
The raids came just two days after Stalin’s party, the DMK, pulled out of the ruling coalition at the Centre over the government’s refusal to take a strong stand against Sri Lanka at the UN’s top human rights body in Geneva.
