While UP minister Raja Bhaiya resigned over charges of murdering of Kunda DSP Zia-ul-Haq, villagers angered by the murder reportedly locked up the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) inside the slain cop’s house when he went to meet the bereaved on Monday. An IBN-Live reported that the villagers refused to let the DGP out till Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met with the family. However, ibnlive quoted Arun Kumar, ADG, Law and Order of Uttar Pradesh as saying, “It’s not true that the DGP is locked up inside. There is no question of gherao and locking up.” The list of crimes that the dreaded Raja Bhaiya has against him is long enough. In his affidavit filed with Election Commission before last year’s Assembly polls, he had eight declared criminal cases, including attempt to murder, dacoity and abduction, against him. The prominent one in his recent affidavit are the cases against him under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act. Raja Bhaiya has several criminal cases against him and has also been to jail during Mayawati’s rule. This latest charge of murder had been registered against the minister by the slain police official’s wife.
The police official was allegedly killed by associates of the controversial Uttar Pradesh minister.
