CAG trying to be super government: Vayalar Ravi

New Delhi: Union Minister Vayalar Ravi today hit-out at the CAG accusing it of having crossed its Constitutional mandate and “trying to become a super government”. “CAG report has crossed the Constitutional provisions and now the CAG man is trying to become a super government and he wanted to go into everything what government does…”, he told reporters in New Delhi.[caption id=“attachment_432569” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/vyalarravi_380PIB.jpg "vyalarravi_380PIB") Opposing the BJP. Image courtesy PIB[/caption] Ravi, incharge of Overseas Indian Affairs, said there was a constitutional limit for the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Ravi, who holds additional charge of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Ministry, made the remarks with regard to the CAG report which has estimated loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crore in allocation of coal blocks without auction. He said the coal allocation was for protecting the power sector which is a key to the national progress. The minister said it was a policy matter decided by the government and “CAG is not fit to question why you did it ?” In his statement in Parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attacked CAG findings on coal block allocations as “disputable and flawed”. On BJP, Ravi charged the opposition party was running away from the debate and they think “they can win a political battle by shouting”. He said it was a “cowardly expression by a political party, which is not expected from BJP”. PTI
