Bypoll Election Results 2019 LATEST Updates| Initial trends for 16 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu showed that DMK is taking the lead in 10 seats while the figure for the ruling AIADMK stands at six. AIADMK faction needs to win at least nine seats of the 22 bypoll seats to remain in power. Excluding the Speaker, the AIADMK has 113 members in a total of 213 seats, and its rival DMK-led alliance has 97 MLAs, including eight from the Congress and one from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). TTV Dhinakaran is the lone MLA of AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran. With the new 22 members, the half way mark has gone up to 117. By-elections for 22 Assembly seats will decide the fate of the E Palaniswamy government in Tamil Nadu. While 18 seats voted on 18 April, four other voted on 19 May. The “mini Assembly elections” in Tamil Nadu were necessitated after 18 MLAs belonging to the AIADMK were disqualified by the Madras High Court in 2018, upholding Speaker P Dhanapal’s decision to cancel their membership under the anti-defection law. These disqualified MLAs had expressed no confidence in Chief Minister Palaniswamy and backed rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran. The AIADMK government needs to win at least eight seats to retain a simple majority in the Assembly. If it fails to do so, Tamil Nadu may once again experience the political instability seen in the aftermath of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s death. At present, the AIADMK has the support of 110 MLAs (including the Assembly Speaker). The DMK has the support of 98 MLAs, while Dhinakaran claims to have the backing of three MLAs. The bypolls for Panaji in Goa and Agra North in Uttar Pradesh have been necessitated due to the deaths of sitting BJP MLAs Manohar Parrikar and Jagan Prasad Garg, respectively. While the by-election in Uttar Pradesh is unlikely to have any impact on the government, the results of the Panaji bypoll may determine the stability of the BJP-led alliance in Goa. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath is contesting from his pocket borough of Chhindwara in order to enter the state Assembly. It is worth mentioning the BJP has written to Governor Anandiben Patel to call a special session of the Assembly “keeping in mind the people’s aspirations and other current issues” the state is faced with. The 231-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly has 113 Congress members and 109 BJP members. The ruling coalition is led by the Congress party, supported by two MLAs of SP-BSP, and four Independent MLAs. in West Bengal, six Assembly constituencies voted on 19 May after their incumbent MLAs defected to different parties to contest the Lok Sabha elections. The five seats that voted in the final phase are Islampur, Habibpur, Nowda, Kandi, Bhatpara and Darjeeling.

BJP leads in four seats, TMC in three
In consonance with its surge in Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, the BJP is also striding ahead in four of the eight Assembly seats, where byelections were
held following one death and seven resignations, according to the Election Commission sources.
The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is leading in three seats, while the Congress is ahead in one.

BJP, Congress takes lead in one Lok Sabha seat each
BJP candidate Shripad Naik is leading in North Goa Lok Sabha seat while Congress nominee Francisco Sardinha is ahead in South Goa seat of the coastal state after the first round of counting. Counting of votes for the two Lok Sabha and four Assembly seats in Goa began this morning.
Naik is leading by over 5,000 votes against his nearest rival and Congress candidate Girish Chodankar. In South Goa seat, Sardinha is leading by nearly 3,000
votes against BJP’s sitting MP Narendra Sawaikar.
In the Assembly bypolls to four seats, the BJP is leading in three and the Congress is ahead in one. BJP candidate Joshua D’Souza is leading against his
nearest Congress rival Sudhir Kandolkar by 600 votes in Mapusa Assembly seat after the first round of counting.

The AIADMK faction has a strength of 113 minus the Speaker in the 234 member house with 22 vacancies. The simple majority in the full house is 117.
DMK is depending on the by-elections to have a shot at capturing power in the state. The party, along with its allies, including Congress, has 97 MLAs against AIADMK’s 114 in the 234-member assembly with 22 vacancies.
AIADMK would require a significant number of seats to remain in power even as rival leader, AMMK founder T T V Dhinakaran, has threatened to play spoilsport to Palaniswami’s chances to continue in power.
On Thursday, results will also be out for 38 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state, with the election to Vellore being cancelled following recovery of huge amount of cash. Over 800 candidates are testing their fortunes from the 38 Lok Sabha seats and another 406 from the by-polls.

All eyes also on Tamil Nadu bypolls as counting of votes polled in 22 Assembly seats begin
As counting of votes polled in 38 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu begins on Thursday, all eyes will also be on the results of the bypolls to 22 Assembly seats, since the outcome will decide whether the K Palaniswami government will stay or not.
While exit polls have forecast a second saffron surge in the country in five years, mainly in the Hindi heartland that will enable a successive term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they have predicted a good show by Congress-ally DMK in the state.
The exit polls have painted a bleak picture for the AIADMK, even as the ruling party keeps a nervous eye on the bypolls to know its fate.
