Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday criticised the UPA’s budget saying it showed the lack of connect between the government and the common man. “Budget 2013-14 showcases UPA’s disconnect with the people. Unemployment and inflation will continue to bother the common man,” Modi tweeted. IT lacks a growth strategy for India’s economy. The budget is a living document of the UPA’s non-performance. On the government’s announcement of setting-up an all women’s public sector bank, Modi said such co-operative banks were functioning for long in Gujarat but UPA imposed income tax on them thus making their survival very difficult. Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar too criticised the finance minister, saying his budget is a lacklusture one without any effective measures to revive the sluggish economy. “It is anti-growth and anti-development budget,” Shettar said. “In this (economic) background, it was expected that Union Finance Minister would include necessary schemes and programmes to revive the national economy. But this expectation has not been fulfilled,” Shettar said.
