On a high after winning six by-poll elections, for two Lok Sabha seats and four Assembly seats, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said it was a sign of things to come in the next general elections. Speaking to the media outside party chief Rajnath Singh’s house in New Delhi, a beaming Gujarat Chief Minister congratulated and thanked the people of Gujarat saying the win was a major boost for the party, and said it indicated the time has come for the Congress-led UPA government to go. Party chief Singh also echoed similar views and said the results were a clear anger of the nation’s frustration. “This victory for the BJP indicates that the people are frustrated and angry with the UPA government at the Centre,” he said. Modi had an hour long meeting with Singh reportedly held to celebrate the party’s win in the BJP-administered state. The by-poll victories for the BJP comes at a crucial time and just ahead of the national executive meeting in Goa from 7 to 9 June. The party is likely to announce Modi as its election campaign committee chief signalling the rise of his role in the national executive.
The BJP was riding on a high today with the party winning two Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat - Porbandar and Banaskantha – both of which were previously held by the Congress.
