Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti was detained today enroute to riot-hit Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. The district had witnessed violence in the last week in which over 40 people lost their lives. Her visit to the state comes a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Minister of State for Home Affairs RPN singh visited the state. Curfew has been lifted from all the riot-hit areas in the state and the Army has also been called back. [caption id=“attachment_1115213” align=“alignright” width=“380”] Uma Bharti. PTI Uma Bharti. It seems that the police detained the BJP leader following the order issued by the CM. Earlier also BJP leaders including Ravi Shankar Prasad were stopped from visiting the state. Meanwhile, police informed that Indian army officials, who were deployed in the violence hit area, started pulling out of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. “There is absolute calm and the district administration and police are in complete control of the situation. Hence the army is being withdrawn,” Additional Director General of Police Arun Kumar said.
