Binny, two other MLAs threaten to withdraw support to AAP govt

New Delhi: Delhi legislator Vinod Kumar Binny – expelled from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MLA Shoaib Iqbal Sunday threatened to withdraw support to the one-month-old government if it did not agree to their demands. The duo also claimed to have the support of three other legislators, including an Independent who had supported the AAP government during the crucial vote of trust. If our demands are not met, we will be forced to re-think the support we have given,” Iqbal said in a press conference. Flanked by Iqbal and Independent legislator Rambir Shokeen, Binny said,“I along with Shoaib Iqbal and Rambir will meet Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and withdraw support if our demands are not met in 48 hours." Binny threatened to form a political front with the other MLAs who are in touch with him, along with municipal councillors. Vinod Kumar Binny, who has been shown the door for “indiscipline” by Arvind Kejriwal, has put forth a series of demands with Delhi Government which include fulfilment of promises made by the party before the Assembly polls. He also asked Arvind Kejriwal government to sort out the issues related to power and water sector. He demanded that government should give subsidy on 8 per cent increase in power surcharge. The DERC has increased the power surcharge ranging from 6 to 8 per cent this month. He also said, “The Arvind Kejriwal government should make women squads as promised to prioritise security of women. Instead of charging people for entire 700 litres of water after exceeding the limit, the government should charge only for water consumed over 700 looters. Reminding the AAP government of its promise of waiving the “inflated” power bills of 1,05,200 people who have not paid their bills on the call of Arvind Kejriwal during the protests, Binny said,“the government should waive off their dues first.” In the December 2013 Delhi assembly elections, the AAP won 28 seats in the 70-member house and formed the government with the outside support of the Congress that had won eight seats. Iqbal and an Independent also extended support to the AAP in the assembly. Of AAP’s 28 lawmakers, one was elected speaker and another MLA – Binny – was expelled for anti-party activities.   IANS and PTI
