Bihar Election 2020 Phase 1 Voting LATEST Updates: Bihar recorded 53.34% polling till 6 pm in the first phase voting. The polling was held at 16 districts, of which Banka district recorded the highest turnout with over 59% polling. Munger district recorded the lowest turnout at 47.36 percent voting. The polling has been concluded for the first phase of Bihar election across 16 districts. The final statistics will be released by the Chief Election Officer Bihar shortly. Election Commissioner in a press briefing today said that the polling for first phase included 12 Naxal-hit districts, of which four were considered extremely hit by the Left-wing extremism. He, however, expressed satisfaction about the arrangement and said the polling was conducted in a satisfactory manner. According to the state election commission, over 51 percent polling has been recorded in first phase toll 5 pm. The state also saw a good turnout in areas that are under the Naxal influence. The voting has ended at 30 of the 71 seats that went to polls today. According to Hindi news publication Hindustan, voting was conducted between 7 am to 4 pm on 26 seats, while polling concluded at four seats in red corridor at 3 pm only. Voters will be able to exercise their franchise from 7 am to 6 pm. The last hour has been set aside for those who have contracted COVID-19 or who are in quarantine, reported Times of India. Besides, in order to ensure that the social distancing at each polling station can be followed, the Election Commission (EC) has reduced the number of voters at each booth to 1,000. As a result of this, the number of polling stations has gone up to more than one lakh. In the 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections, the number stood at over 65,000. To hold Bihar Assembly Elections 2020 safely amid the pandemic, the EC has arranged more than seven lakh hand sanitiser units, about 46 lakh masks, 6 lakh PPE kits, 6.7 lakh units of faces-shields, 23 lakh pairs of hand gloves, reported The Times of India.
