Basu Chatterjee, Hrishikesh Mukherjee inspire Madhur's next film

Leh: Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is busy scripting his next romantic film, which he says is on the lines of Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's movies.

"I am planning to make a romantic musical film. It is more on lines of Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's films. It is a very simple film for the middle class, a cute love story between a girl and two boys.

"It can also be about one boy and two girls. We are still working on the script. It is called 'Marr Jaawaa'," Madhur said in an interview here.

Known to make realistic films like "Fashion", "Chandni Bar", the director said he is looking forward to try his hands at something new this time. "It is a slice of life film. Any girl and boy will relate to it as it is a love story. I have never tried this I am looking forward to it. I have always made topical cinema and I will not shy away or digress from making those films," he said.

There are reports that Bollywood actresses like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor have been signed for this film. But Madhur said he is yet to finalise the cast. "It is not true. There are no talks with them. I don't have any actor on my wish list as of now. I am still working on the script and once I am done then I will decide whether to cast an established actress or a newcomer," he said.

Madhur said he is happy to have been invited to be a part of the second edition of Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF).

"It is very commendable for the organizers to arrange for a festival like this here. The kind of films that are screened here are really good. It is nice to be here. It (festival) has just started and it needs time to grow but still they are doing a fine job," he said.

"We have Vishal Bhardwaj, Gulzar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Aparna Sen, so their presence makes a huge difference. I am hoping gradually actors will also come here. The awareness is required," he added.

Madhur also said that the Leh-Ladakh tourism department must make Bollywood personalities aware of the scenic beauty of this place, so that they can come and shoot here.

"I think if such an initiative is taken by them then why would Bollywood go abroad to shoot, why not come here as this is a beautiful place as well," he said.
