Lucknow: Under fire for the Badaun gangrape and murder of two cousin sisters, Uttar Pradesh government today shifted Principal Secretary (Home) Anil Kumar Gupta.
Gupta has been put on the waiting list of posting, an official spokesman here said. The state government had been in the firing line of all the opposition parties which had been citing the incident as symptomatic of “dismal” law and order situation in the state.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has not yet posted a new official in Gupta’s place, the spokesman added.
Yadav today also directed authorities to launch a helpline in every district of the state to deal with women harassment complaints.
“The helpline would be monitored by the SSPs and SPs themselves,” the Chief Minister said while issuing a directive to this effect to authorities concerned.
Two teenage cousins aged 14 and 15 were allegedly gangraped and murdered and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in Katra Sadatganj village in Badaun, 300 kms from Lucknow.
The girls went missing on 27 May and their bodies were found on 28 May. The postmortem report of the victims confirmed that they were raped before hanging.
