With the YSR Congress all set to wrest power in Andhra Pradesh, its Legislature Party will meet in Amaravati on Saturday. Jaganmohan Reddy told reporters he would take oath at Vijayawada on 30 May and promised to bring in a governance that the country would stand up and look to.

Terming his party’s good show in the state Assembly polls and Lok Sabha elections as a “new chapter” in the history of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy said such a massive mandate came with tremendous amount of responsibility. “I will make sure that I live up to that expectations. I assure that I will stand by the people of AP and put in every effort that needs to be put in so that history repeats,” he said, referring to his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddys stint as chief minister of then unified Andhra Pradesh.

Chandrababu Naidu said the TDP would now review the results and announce the future course of action. “We will review how the party should now function and go forward. I will not talk anything now,” he said in response to a question. The TDP that won 102 Assembly seats in 2014, now looks set to bag a mere 24 seats in the 175-member AP Assembly as the main opposition YSR Congress is headed for a landslide victory with 150 seats.

He also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over their electoral victories. “Elections are over, results have come. In a democracy, it is our responsibility to accept peoples verdict. I congratulate YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on his partys victory,” Naidu said at a press conference.

The YS Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSRC may end up with over a three-fourths majority in the 175-member Assembly. YSRC sources said the party will meet Amaravati in on 25 May to formally elect Jaganmohan Reddy as its leader. Reddy will take oath as Chief Minister in Vijayawada on 30 May, the sources said. With his party set to wrest power, Reddy Thursday termed it as people’s victory.

N Chandrababu Naidu submits his resignation to the Governor ESL Narasimhan as the Chief Minister of AndhraPradesh after Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) defeat in assembly elections.The YSR Congress appeared on course for a overwhelming victory in Andhra Pradesh with its candidates winning nine seats and leading in 140 others, dealing a knockout blow to the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party. The TDP is leading in 23 seats and actor-politician’s Jana Sena party in one, according to the latest Election Commission data at 6.29 pm.

Andhra Pradesh has given a sweeping mandate to YSR Jaganmohan Reddy for both state and the Centre, decimating Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party.

Reddy, the chief of the YSR Congress, is leading in 141 of the state’s 175 assembly seats and all 25 of its Lok Sabha seats. While Naidu is yet to concede defeat, leaders in Reddy’s camp said he is likely to take oath on 30 May.

Ram Gopal Varma hails Jagan Reddy on victory in Andhra

Noted film director Ram Gopal Varma Thursday congratulated YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on his party’s victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

A known critic of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, Varma also alleged “lies” and “corruption” were the reasons for the “death” of the ruling party in the state.

Talking to the media at his residence in Amaravati, YSRC chief Jaganmohan Reddy congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the BJP’s performance in the Lok Sabha polls.

Reddy asserted that his fight for securing special category status for Andhra Pradesh would continue. He declined to speak about Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

YSR Congress Party’s Kangati Sreedevi is leading the vote share in Pattikonda in Kurnool district against KE Shyam Kumar of TDP, son of Deputy chief minister KE Krishnamurthy, with a margin of 4033 votes.

Sreedevi, the wife of slain YSR CP leader and the then in-charge of Pattikonda constituency C Narayana Reddy, entered the fray for the first time after her husband was murdered in 2017. She accused her contender Kumar in the case. However, the police dropped the charge against him.
