Amar Singh's political career to get second life thanks to Congress?

Kicked out of the Samajwadi Party for “anti-party activities” by Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh’s political career may be in for a revival thanks to the Congress in the upcoming elections. Reports say that Congress is contemplating giving Singh a ticket to contest from Gautam Budh Nagar in Noida. [caption id=“attachment_1421801” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Amar Singh. Reuters.[/caption] An Economic Times article quoted Singh saying that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has shown him compassion. “After my troubles with law, with my health, most of my so-called friends — Mulayam Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, others —abandoned me. I found that Sonia Gandhi is a noble lady and I am truly grateful for her kindness,” Singh was quoted as saying. Four years ago, Singh’s tumultuous last days in SP ended after he and protege Jaya Prada were expelled despite Singh’s close relationship with Mulayam. At the time, much to Mulayam’s dismay, Singh had publicly praised Mayawati, and endorsed Gandhi. The Congress has reportedly already given the go-ahead to nominate Jaya Prada from Moradabad. She is presently the MP from Rampur and had contested the 2009 elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket. However, this is not the first time Singh has been seen as having close ties with the Congress. In the 2008 cash-for-votes scam, BJP MPs accused Singh of bribing them in exchange for favourable votes for the UPA government in a confidence motion. Singh’s woes ended a few months ago when a Delhi court discharged him in the matter. Many predicted that Singh, who’s political career was marked by controversies and has been critically ill over the last year, had forever lost his space in Indian politics. However, the unpredictable alliances leading up to the elections leave room to wonder if Singh has another shot left.
