Mayawati had convened a emergency meeting of the cabinet on Sunday night following which it was decided to send the resolution to the Governor. The move is a departure from tradition, with the recommendation usually given after the results of the elections. The Governor can then decide whether Mayawati should continue as Chief Minister until another party is ready to stake claim to form the government or if President’s rule is to be imposed. However, according to reports the Governor was attending a function with President in Bareilly in the morning and will be back in Lucknow after that.
