A Nerul teacher, who had raped a Standard 7 student earlier this year, and was on the run for the last two months, has been traced to Delhi, reports said on Monday.
According to a report published in DNA, the 40-year-old teacher of an English medium school "has been named as an accused in the FIR and has been identified as Harishankar Awadh Shukla alias Raj Shukla".
The Nerul police had registered the FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).
The complaint filed by the girl's parents has revealed that the accused had raped her in April and August, DNA said, adding, "In April, when all the students had gone out to the ground for a PT class, Shukla had allegedly raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident."
According to reports, the parents of the girl came to know of the pregnancy five months after the incident when she was taken to a local doctor after she complained of vomiting and nausea. The teacher, however, had denied the allegations.
The teacher, who is married and has one son was fired from his job after which he fled from his Koparkhairane residence. Soon afterwards his family also left the flat.
However, according to The Times of India, the Nerul police has managed to track down his location in Delhi. "A couple of days ago, we tracked down his location to Delhi," Adikrao Pol, senior inspector of Nerul police station, told the newspaper.
According to the report, a team has reached Delhi and is coordinating with the local law-enforcement officials to arrest the accused.
