Abhijit won the Jangipur seat in Murshidabad district by a thin margin of 2,536 votes after Pranab Mukherjee vacated it following his election as the President of India.

Kolkata: Congress MP and son of President Pranab Mukherjee, Abhijit, who won from Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in 2012 by a thin margin, today said he wanted to contest from it again in next year’s Lok Sabha election.

“I want to contest from Jangipur Lok Sabha seat, once again in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014. I have already started my preparations,” said Abhijit in Kolkata.

Asked whether he had got a signal from the Congress high command as it was yet to announce the list of candidates, Abhijit said, “I want the high command to consider me for this seat as I have been working hard in my constituency. Last year the margin was low, but this time I am confident of increasing it.”

Abhijit won the Jangipur seat in Murshidabad district by a thin margin of 2,536 votes after Pranab Mukherjee vacated it following his election as the President of India.

The senior Mukherjee had won the seat in 2009 with over 1.28 lakh votes.
