The Aam Aadmi Party headquarters on Hanuman road is located in an area that is very much occupied by khaas aadmis . A two storey building located on a street that mainly houses rich families, the building originally belonged to the family that owned the famous Ganguly watch company. Mrs Ganguly, the last surviving member of the family, died about a decade ago. But neighbours say that by then her trusted chauffeur had robbed her of all her jewellery that was kept in the tijori. Neighbours said that people didn’t visit her and Mrs Ganguly was rather isolated. She continued living in the house with one domestic help for company. One day when her breakfast was taken up to her on the terrace, Mrs Ganguly was found to have passed away. Eventually a builder bought the property and AAP took it on rent. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal before moving in had even met with the Hanuman road residents’ association to ask them to give him and his party a chance. After moving in, the AAP fixed up the building and even gave it a fresh coat of paint which was welcomed given the house was falling into disrepair. However, neighbours aren’t too sure how long it will be maintained. “I have heard the AAP will leave soon. Then what will happen?” a neighbour said.
