50 Delhi JD(U) activists quit over expulsion of Shabir Ali

New Delhi: Over fifty office bearers of Delhi JD-U today resigned in protest against the expulsion of party MP and state chief Shabir Ali. Ali, who was Lok Sabha candidate from Sheohar, was expelled by the party yesterday for praising BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The office beares sent a signed letter to JD-U President Sharad Yadav today alleging that there was an attempt to strangulate democracy within the party, which has reached its climax. Image courtesy: Youtube[/caption]The signatories to the letter include state Vice Presidents Afroz Khan Tyagi and Jitendra Kumar Singh, over a dozen general secretaries, Presidents of JD-U Delhi women cell and minority cell and others. Shabir Ali, who was denied a Rajya Sabha renomination recently, praised Narendra Modi’s policy attracting the wrath of the party. He was among three Rajya Sabha members of JD(U), including Shivanand Tiwari and bureaucrat-politician N K Singh, who were denied renomination to the Rajya Sabha last month and were asked to contest Lok Sabha election instead. While the two others had backed out from contesting polls, Ali had agreed and was allotted party ticket from Sheohar seat. Ali had come to the JD(U) from Ramvilas Paswan’s LJP in the midst of his Rajya Sabha term on expectation of getting renomination. Ali came down heavily on the party alleging that big leaders were surrounded by “sycophants” who would lead the party to ruins. PTI
