Next time you go to Gujarat, get ready to savour the specially named cuisines like ‘2G puff’, ‘CWG sandwich’ or maybe ‘Coalgate shake’–because restaurants may soon serve dishes named after the scams that have rocked the Congress-led UPA government at the centre. According to reports, this move by the members of the Gujarat Rajya Hotel Federation (GRHF) is to protest against the Congress workers who had forcibly shut down a Mumbai eatery Aditi Restaurant in Mumbai for criticizing the UPA government. [caption id=“attachment_988867” align=“alignright” width=“380”] Reuters[/caption] Aditi Restaurant in Mumbai had issued bills which had a message at the bottom of the printed receipt that read, “As per UPA govt eating money (2G, coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in AC restaurants is a luxury.” After arbitrarily deciding to shut down Aditi restaurant, the Congress workers went to the police and registered a case of defamation against the restaurant owner. Predictably the incident had led to outrage on social media with even Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi weighing in and calling it “Height of Intolerance!” Now, it’s the BJP’s turn. According to the TOI report, members of GRHF feel that naming snacks and drinks after scams will be a fitting reply to what was done against Srinivas Setty, the owner of the Mumbai eatery. The hoteliers believe that such protest could make the Centre remove the new service tax and help them save losses. Since over 6,000 eateries are part of GRHF, Congress may not be too happy about this!
