Yogi Adityanath, Manohar Lal Khattar kick off two-day Holi 'Rangostav' festival in Mathura

The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanth reached Mathura on Sunday to celebrate the festival of Holi and visited the sanctum of Shri Krishna Janamsthan Temple along with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, before visiting the Keshav Deo Temple. PTI

The BJP government organised a two-day ‘Rangotsav’, or festival of colours, on 23 and 24 February in Mathura and Barsana, the birthplaces of Lord Krishna and Radha respectively, to commemorate the traditional ‘Latthmaar Holi’ which Adityanath also attended. PTI

The Uttar Pradesh government had been planning on celebrating Holi on a grand scale this year. The chief minister spent the entire day at Lohwan village where he met the children and distributed books. PTI

The event is being organised almost a week ahead of the Holi festival, which falls on 2 March this year, since festivities last in Barsana for almost a week. PTI

The Rangotsav also featured cultural events on the Yamuna bank opposite the historic Vishram Ghat in Mathura. A Yamuna aarti by Adityanath, who is also the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math, was conducted. PTI

Adityanath also attended Brij Mahotsav in Mathura. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said time has come to ‘take this event to an international level’. PTI
