With state police and a smattering of protesters standing watch outside the church, couples brought dozens of unloaded AR-15s rifles into World Peace and Unification Sanctuary for a religious event that doubled as an advertisement for the Second Amendment. AP

The weapon was checked at the door and secured with a zip tie. The church believes the AR-15 symbolises the “rod of iron” in the book of Revelation, and encouraged couples to bring the weapons. AP

Some worshippers also wore crowns made out of bullets. Tim Elder, Unification Sanctuary’s director of world missions, said the ceremony was meant to be a blessing of couples, not inanimate objects, calling the AR-15 a religious accouterment. AP

The event took place two weeks after Florida shooting in which a a 19-year-old used an AR-15 to kill 17 students and school staff in Parkland, Florida prompting Donald Trump suggesting the possibility of arming teachers. AP
