The students of all the campuses of the institute have been protesting since 21 February against the administration demanding tuition, dining hall and hostel fees for scholarship students. Firstpost/Prthvir Solanki

One of the alumni, who requested anonymity, said the fees per semester had surged over 100 percent in just two years and the students were forced to become indebted to the banks through loans. Firstpost/Prthvir Solanki

“We appeal to you to immediately roll back withdrawal of Centre’s Post Matric Scholarship (GOI-PMS) in TISS and reinstate all financial assistance that was earlier available,” a memorandum that the students intended to submit to Union MHRD Minister Prakash Javdekar said. Firstpost/Prthvir Solanki

The Post Matric Scholarship scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by the state governments, providing financial assistance to the Scheduled Caste students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. Firstpost/Prthvir Solanki

The students are getting the support of TISS SC/ST Employee’s Welfare Association and the TISS Teachers’ Association. They are also being supported by TISS Alumni along with students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Delhi University Student Union, All India Students’ Association, among others.
