The TDP MPs were wearing yellow scrves in protest. They later stormed the Well in Lok Sabha and demanded special package for Andhra Pradesh. However, ally BJP was able to persuade them to stop their protest before Modi’s speech. But frequent sloganeering and questions like “Andhra ke vade ka kya hua?” rang out during the prime minister’s speech. PTI

Modi started his address, which many termed a campaign speech, on a stormy note. He accused the Nehru-Gandhi family of being responsible for the woes of modern India. “To this day, 125 crore Indians are paying the price for your sins, you divided India keeping elections in mind,” the prime minister said. He used Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech as a talking point and claimed that the Congress destroyed democracy. PTI

Rahul Gandhi, who was seen listening to the PM’s speech, later commented on Modi’s silence on Twitter. He mocked the 90-minute address, saying the prime minister carefully avoided important questions. He said that Modi seems to have forgotten that he is the prime minister and not an Opposition leader, adding that the Parliament was not the place to blast Congress as if it were an election. PTI

Rahul also said: “Here, you have to answer to the country. You are not to make accusations here.” While the Congress president attacked Modi outside the Parliament, Congress members could be heard shouting “Shame, Shame!” or “Stop your lies” all through the prime minister’s speech. PTI

Meanwhile, in Rajya Sabha, the prime minister yet again trained his guns on the Congress. He used Ghulam Nabi Azad’s speech as a takeoff point. From dynasticism to Emergency, Modi used the Motion of Thanks on President’s address as an opportunity to hit back at his political rivals. PTI

Lambasting Congress, Modi also said that a Congress-mukt India was not his idea but of Mahatma Gandhi’s who believed that the party should be disbanded post Independence. His speech was again drowned down at various points by the Opposition. Congress leader Renuka Choudhury was heard loudly guffawing. PTI

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu took strong objections and asked Renuka Choudhary to see a doctor if she was not well. He also expunged the remarks. Modi then taunted her by saying that the chairman should let her be because people haven’t heard such a laugh since the Ramayana TV series. The prime minister did not name any character in particular. PTI

“What more can you expect from him? It is established that the BJP is against women. When I laughed, it hurt because it was the laughter of truth,” Renuka Choudhary told reporters outside the House. PTI
