The locals said that the mourners attempted to offer ‘Namaz-e-Janazah’ (prayer before burial) at the Jamia Masjid, but were prevented by police which lead to clashes. About half-a-dozen persons were injured after security forces fired teargas canisters and shotgun pellets to break a procession of mourners. AP

Irate crowds took to streets in Srinagar and Budgam districts to protest the killing of the Hizbul militant, who the local police said played a key role in lynching of DSP Ayub Pandith last month. Reuters
