Indian Parsis are known to be the single largest group of the Zoroastrian religious community; they include Iranis who migrated to Gujarat region (now in Pakistan) when Persia was invaded by Islamic armies in the seventh century. This community celebrated Parsi New Year on 17 August this year PTI

Parsi New Year or Navroz is celebrated twice in a year. First Navroz falls in March and signifies the beginning of spring according to the Iranian calendar. However, Zoroastrians in India follow Shahenshahi calendar known as Jamshed-i-Nouroz. PTI

The celebrations are also known as Pateti as Emperor Jamshed is believed to have begun it around 3,000 years ago. On this day people pray for prosperity, health, and wealth and is believed to the day of remittance of sins and repentance. PTI

Parsis dedicate the day to cleaning their minds from all negative thoughts and renew their spirits with positivity and peace. They prepare dishes like Egg Pattice, Patra Nu Machi, Sali Boti, Berry Pulav, Jardaloo Chicken, Mithu Dahi, Farcha, Lagan nu Custard, Mawa ni Boi and other lip-smacking delicacies. Twitter @ANI
