Wearing saffron caps and holding flags, the protesters marched towards the protest venue via JJ flyover in south Mumbai which had been closed for vehicular traffic. AP

The protest which started from Byculla Zoo at 11 am and ended at Azad Maiden in the evening, saw participation of lakhs of community members and was intended as show of strength and unity. AP

Largely peaceful, the organisers had urged the participants to follow the code of conduct — to march silently without any sloganeering or speeches and to not carry any banners or placards except the official logo of the Maratha Kranti Morcha. PTI

After a meeting with the community leaders, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis accepted the main demands. He announced that 605 education courses will be open for Maratha students while a sub-committee will be formed to look into the reservation process. Sanjay Sawant/Firstpost
