Lucknow-Agra highway turns IAF runway as planes carry out emergency landing drill

The three-hour-long exercise began with IAF’s Special Forces Garud commandos getting off the C-130J transport aircraft with their vehicle and taking “positions” on either side of the expressway. An IAF transport aircraft, a C-130 Hercules lands on the Expressway. PTI

The exercise simulated an emergency situation when airbases, the first target of bombs and missiles, would not be available for air operations, necessitating the use of highways as landing strips. A Su-30 MKI aircraft touches down the Expressway during the drill. PTI
