Kolkata has topped the list of the safest cities in India for the fourth year in a row. According to the NCRB report, Kolkata recorded 83.9 cognisable offences per lakh population in 2023. This was the lowest among the 19 Indian cities with populations above 20 lakh. PTI

Maharashtra's Pune has ranked third on the list of the safest cities with 337.1 cognisable offences per lakh. The city authorities are credited with a good law enforcement structure and public safety policies. PTI
With 355.4 cognisable offences per lakh, Mumbai has secured the fourth rank on the list. The financial capital of the country has dense policing and urban safety infrastructure, making it one of the safest cities in the country. Although a smaller metro city compared to the other cities on the list, Coimbatore has ranked fifth on the list of safest cities.
