India celebrated its 71st Independence Day on Tuesday with patriotic fervor and gaiety. Ordinary people and political leaders from all over the country participated in the celebrations. In Kolkata, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee unfurled the tricolour at an Independence Day function at Red Road. PTI
Banerjee also oversaw a colourful parade at the Independence Day function. She also inspected a guard of honur given by the state and city police. PTI
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan inspected the parade during Independence Day celebrations at Motilal Nehru Stadium in Bhopal. In his address to the gathering, he stressed for eliminating corruption and poverty from the state. PTI
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti unfurled the tricolour at Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar. In her address, Mufti said she has faith in the judiciary to dismiss the challenge to Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. PTI
After unfurling the national flag, Mufti inspected the guard of honour at Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar. She also welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on Kashmir, saying she has maintained that dialogue can alone solve the problems in Kashmir. PTI
In Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attended the Independence Day celebrations at Chatrasal Stadium. He said a number of countries, who got independence after India, have raced forwards in terms of development because they invested in education. PTI
In his Independence Day address, Kejriwal said governments should ensure freedom for women instead of imposing restrictions on them. He also said that justice has to be certain and swift in order to tackle crime against women. PTI
In Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inspected the guard of honor during the Independence Day function at Veterinary College ground in Guwahati. PTI
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar also inspected the guard of honour after unfurling the national flag at Patna's Gandhi Maidan. In his address, Kumar spoke about the flood situation in the state, and expressed concern over the grim situation. PTI

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao reviewed the parade during the Independence Day celebrations in Hyderabad. After unfurling the national flag, Rao said he will work towards providing more jobs in the state. PTI
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Aditiyanath during the Independence Day function in Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow said that the path for the development of India will go through the state of Uttar Pradesh. PTI
