The water resources ministry had warned that water levels in rivers in east Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and east Rajasthan may rise rapidly due to “heavy to very heavy” and “extremely heavy” rain. PTI

Rivers were expected to rise in parts of west Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat due to “heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places” in the past two days. PTI

Meanwhile, the flood situation in West Bengal improved on Sunday as water has started to recede in majority of the rivers in the worst-hit Howrah, Hooghly and West Midnapore districts. PTI

An Indian Air Force helicopter was also deployed on Sunday to rescue flood-affected people at Ghatal in West Midnapore district. The state government is yet to estimate loss incurred by farmers as over 2.5 lakh hectares of agricultural land lies submerged. PTI

Nearly 68,000 people in West Bengal have taken shelter in 221 relief camps set up in the flood-hit districts of West Bengal. PTI
