Chatrapathi was one of SS Rajamouli's earliest films, and one of his first collaborations with Prabhas. It told the story of a man who fought for the rights of refugees from Sri Lanka. Image from Facebook/@Prabhasrajufc

Then came Magadheera in 2009, which was a film about reincarnation starring Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal. Like Baahubali, it was a romantic drama involving warriors, and was made with a lavish budget of Rs 350 million. Image from Facebook/@SSRajamouli

His 2010 film Maryada Ramanna was so popular that it had four remakes. SS Rajamouli was inspired by Buster Keaton's Our Hospitality, which led him to direct this action comedy starring Sunil and Saloni Aswani. Youtube screengrab

In Eega, another reincarnation story, a man who is murdered avenges his death and protects the woman he loves by returning as a fly. This film starred Sudeep, Nani and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and was written by Rajamouli's father KV Vijayendra Prasad. Image from Facebook/@Eegamovie

But the film that has brought him the most fame is the Prabhas-Rana Daggubati-starrer Baahubali. The action, visuals and storytelling in the first part sent the whole country into a frenzy. Everyone wanted to know the answer to the question of why Katappa killed Baahubali. Image from Facebook/@BahhubaliMovie

Baahubali 2 was a much-anticipated film, and it earned SS Rajamouli the title of being the director of India's highest grossing film of all time. Image from Facebook/@BahhubaliMovie
