From Good Will Hunting to The Martian — a look at some of the most promising films of Matt Damon [Photos]
Matt Damon was nominated for Best Actor award at Oscars for his performances in Good Will Hunting (1996) and The Martian (2016). However, he along with Ben Affleck, won the Academy Award for the Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
It was in 1997, with the film Good Will Hunting, with which Damon made a staggering entry into Hollywood both as the lead actor as well as a screen writer (along with Ben Affleck). The film was a major success, both critical and commercial. It went on to win Academy Awards for Robin Williams in the Best Supporting Actor category and Damon-Affleck for the Best Screenplay. Matt Damon delivered a phenomenal performance in the 2009 sports drama film, Invictus. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film also starred screen veteran Morgan Freeman in the lead role along with Damon. While Freeman played the South African President Nelson Mandela in the film, Damon was seen as François Pienaar, the captain of the South Africa rugby union team, the Springboks. The Bourne trilogy — The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) — based on Robert Ludlum's bestselling novels, introduced Damon to the realm of action thriller. In the 2012 film, Promised Land, Damon was again seen in the lead role and a co-writer. The film, however not being a success, boasts of a fabulous performance by the lead actors. In 2015, Damon appeared in the sci-fi futuristic film, The Martian. The film was a huge success and was lauded unanimously for its content, special effects, story and performances (especially of the protagonist played by Damon). The film along with Damon received multiple nominations that year at all the major awards, including The Academy Awards, The Golden Globes, The BAFTA and many more.
