Navratri, the celebration of triumph of good over evil under Hindu mythology, started on Thursday with people across India commemorating the 9-day-long festival. Artists perform during a procession on the occasion of the first day of the festival at Katra in Jammu. PTI
During these 9 days, devotees worship nine different avatars of Goddess Durga. Priests perform rituals as the scion of the Mysore royal family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar holds private durbar at Mysuru Palace. PTI
The name Navratri refers to the nine auspicious nights during which nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped by Hindus. People also observe the festival by participating in Dandiya and playing Garba songs. PTI
