A massive explosion was reported at a boiler plant in the state-run National Thermal Power Corporation’s Unchahar plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district on Wednesday. The explosion killed at least 18 persons while scores suffered severe burn injuries. PTI

Reports said that the toll is likely to go up after relief and rescue operations conclude. Union Power Minister RK Singh is likely to visit Unchahar on Thursday and a probe panel has been set up to investigate the reason behind the blast. The unit where the blast occurred was commissioned just 7 months ago in March. PTI
