Every year, the poaching situation is especially bad during floods as animals have to wade their way through water to retreat to a higher land. AP

This year, the forest department has increased security to keep an eye out for poachers. Forest guards along with the help of Assam Police and Special Task Force also patrol the area at night on boats. AP

The government has set up village defence parties (VDPs) that help in the protection of animals. Apart from that, they also pass on information about poachers to the forest department. AP

Additionally, the government also deployed three drones last week for aerial surveillance of the 430 square kilometre area of the national park. AP

The vehicles that defy the 40 kmph speed limit along the park stretch are being fined Rs 5,000 to ensure that animals crossing the road remain safe. AP
