Assam and West Bengal go to polls: Both states see large voter turnouts in first phase
Over 78 percent of the 95 lakh electorate cast their ballot in the first round of assembly elections on Monday to pick 65 legislators in Assam. The turnout saw an increase from the 2011 assembly election figure, which was 75 percent. Meanwhile, in neighbouring West Bengal 81 percent of the 40 lakh voters exercised their franchise in three Maoist-affected districts on Monday in the first phase.
