Hundreds of people were marooned as heavy rains in several inundated regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan paralysed normal life.

Hundreds of people were marooned in inundated regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan after heavy rains lashed various parts of the states. Rains also affected traffic and hit normal life. PTI

Ahmedabad alone received over 200 mm rainfall in 24 hours, forcing relocation of more than 10,000 people on Thursday. Several localities in the city were waterlogged. The death toll in Gujarat stood at 123 on Wednesday. PTI

Indian Army, Indian Air Force and NDRF were called in for rescue and relief operations. So far 1,925 people in Gujarat have been rescued. PTI

Apart from Ahmedabad, the other district which were affected are Gandhinagar, Bhuj, Banaskantha, Rajkot, Patan, Surat, Valsad and Morbi. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and announced interim assistance of Rs 500 crore for Gujarat. PTI

In Rajasthan’s Jalore, Pali and Sirohi areas, continuous spells of heavy downpour created flood-like situation. Six people were killed, including two children. So far, rescue and relief teams has rescued over 500 people. PTI

On Thursday, the Indian Meteorological Department issued warning for very heavy to heavy rainfall in several parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan for at least next two days. PTI
