On late Tuesday night, statue of EV Ramasamy, commonly known as 'Periyar', was vandalised in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district. The police later arrested two people in relation to the crime. The act of vandalism came just hours after BJP leader in Tamil Nadu H Raja tweeted encouraging vandalism of Periyar statues. PTI

Following the incident, the Tamil Nadu police increased security to the leader statue across the state. Political leaders including Amit Shah, Narendra Modi condemned the act. The BJP worker who was reportedly involved in stoning Periyar's statue has been expelled by the party. PTI

BJP president Amit Shah has said the party will take strict action against party members who are involved in such incidents of vandalism. Amit Shah has also said that the party does not believe does in bringing down statues of anybody. PTI

Meanwhile, the bust of Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mookherjee was found defaced on Wednesday morning in Kolkata. PTI

The statue was found partially damaged and its face blackened. A poster was also found from the spot with the word "radicals" written on it. BJP condemned the "barbaric act" demanding strong action against the culprits. PTI
