State govt to discuss Campa Cola issue in cabinet meeting

After opposition parties raised the issue of the Campa Cola housing society in the State Legislative Council demanding to look at it sympathetically, the state government said that it will discuss the issue in the cabinet meeting. “We will discuss the issue in the state cabinet meeting and will take a decision on it,” said Ajit Pawar, deputy chief minister responding to the issue raised by the opposition parties. Firstpost[/caption] Vinod Tawade, opposition leader in the legislative council, raised the issue in the monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature, which commenced today. “In the winter session, the Chief Minister had assured the House of finding out a solution to the issue. But, it seems that the state government has not taken any action on it. So, the state government should intervene and stop the demolition action against the illegal flats,” Tawade said. Last Monday, the civic body issued notices to the residents asking to vacate their flats peacefully and deposit the keys of the illegal flats between 29 May and 2 June. While the deadline to handover the key is over, nobody has handed over the keys of the illegal flats to the civic body, say civic officials. Last week the Supreme Court agreed to hear a fresh plea of residents on 3 June. “The union government has recently appointed Mukul Rohtagi as attorney general. The state government should consult him and then present the case before the SC,” said Ashish Shelar, a member of the legislative council and city unit president of BJP. More than 100 families have been residing in the housing complex for the past 25 years. Seven high-rise buildings were constructed between 1981 and 1989 in the Campa Cola compound. While the builders were granted permission for ground-plus-five floors, some of the constructions were built with extra floors.
