Mumbai man held for raping his minor daughter

Mumbai: A 42-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping his own minor daughter since last six years, police said.

According to a police official, the victim is the daughter of accused Zakir Shaikh from his first marriage.



The victim, who is now 17, had a major fight with her father a few days back, following which she confided in her female friend. He friend then convinced her to file a police complaint, the official said.

A case was registered against Shaikh, a driver by profession last week, and he was arrested Thursday, said an official of Cuffe Parade Police Station, where the complaint has been registered.

Shaikh has been booked for rape, assault or criminal force used against a women with an intent to outrage her modesty and other related sections of the Indian Penal Code.

"We are awaiting the victim's medical reports and are also investigating whether anyone from the house was aware about the girl being raped by Shaikh," said the official.
