In a horrifying incident of road rage in Mumbai, a biker was left with gashes on his face when two guys and a girl attacked him with a paper cutter on Tuesday evening. According to a
report in The Times of India
, “The attack occurred when the victim, Irwin Cardozo (29), who is employed as a trade commercial specialist at World Trade Centre, was returning home after working out at a fitness centre, said Malad police.” [caption id=“attachment_2348276” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

Also, what comes as a surprise is that an FIR was not registered in the case for more than 24 hours even when the victim and the perpetrators were taken to the Malad Police Station.
DNA reports that the FIR
was registered only on Wednesday “under Sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.” The incident took place at around 11 pm in the night when Cardozo was returning from the gym. Here’s how he described the horrifying incident to
Times of India
, “I was not drunk. I was in my senses after working out at the gym. I was on my way home on my bike when a car suddenly stopped in front of me. I somehow managed to apply the emergency brakes. Yadav, who was in the driver’s seat and the other two — all drunk — began to abuse me. When I went to ask them why they were abusing me, Yadav stepped out of the car and punched me in the chest. I was attacked with a paper-cutter by Wadhone when I tried to retaliate to Yadav’s attack.” Such road rage is not uncommon in Mumbai. In 2015, two such incidents were reported in Mumbai. A doctor was attacked and his car window was smashed, and in another incident an IT professional was assaulted by three men in front of his pregnant wife. It was only last month when three men on a bike tailed a 40-year-old doctor’s car.
The Times of India reports
, “The horrific episode played out between 10am and 10.30am on the packed stretch between the Andheri flyover and Santacruz when the Goregaon resident was on way to her Worli workplace. What’s worse, none of the motorists dared to intervene.” The doctor had dialed three police helpline numbers, but it did not help. The men made lewd gestures and even broke her car’s rear windsheild. A similar incident happened when the IT professional and his wife were in their car on Military Road, Marol. Three men on the bike were following the car and kicking at it.
Ibnlive had reported
, “When he stopped the car, the bike-borne assailants allegedly punched him through the lowered car window and even tried pulling him out of the car. All the while, the professional’s pregnant wife was inside the car and screaming for help.” They were finally rescued by passersby.
