Autorickshaw and taxi fares in Mumbai are set to be hiked once again as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) cleared the fare revision on Monday. The fares will be increased by Re 1 taking the minimum fare for autos to Rs 18, while minimum taxi fare will go up to Rs 22. The hike per subsequent km will go up from the existing Rs 11.33 to Rs 12.18 for CNG autorickshaws and Rs 13.96 to Rs 14.84 a km for taxis, reports Hindustan Times. AFP[/caption] The article quoted Gautam Chatterjee, transport secretary as saying, “The MMRTA has taken a decision on fare revision of autos and taxis, which will be submitted to the Bombay High Court. Following its order, the hike is likely to come into effect from June 1, 2015.” However, the new tariffs can only be applicable once the Bombay High Court clears it and the meters are recalibrated, says a Times of India report. It may take at least a month to recalibrate 1.05 lakh autos and 35,000 taxis in the city, continues the report. This is the second time that the fare for autorickshaws and taxis has increased in less than a year. Late last year the auto fare had increased from Rs 15 to Rs 17 while taxi fare went up from Rs 19 to Rs 21.
Auto-rickshaw and taxi fares in Mumbai are set to be hiked by Re 1 from June.
